Grind 03:35
GRIND. GRIND The world visualized from my board, as I scope it out through skater's eyes. My drug of choice since the Spring of 1975. Wheels under my Vans still make me feel alive. GRIND. I'm still seeing lines. I'm so addicted to the sound of the GRIND. GRIND. GRIND Goofy foot, street, ramps and park. Session all the spots, we could find. Vices grew from 50/50's, acid drops, and board slides. Hit the coping, rock-n-rolls, catch some air with a sick front side. GRIND. I'm still seeing lines. I'm so addicted to the sound of the GRIND. The virus, barking trucks, I can't leave behind. I'm still addicted to the sound of the GRIND. GRIND. GRIND. Healthy disorder I caught from Jay, Alva, and The Bones Brigade. GRIND. I can't detox, I dream I can still rage. As I kick turn and carve with kids one third my age. Rehab's a faceplant away by a fail on a crooked spine. I'm still addicted to the sound of the GRIND!

I loathe the sound of silence, that's when my ears start to ring. I'd rather scream my head off, than try to clearly sing. (Chorus) My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge. But, I'm not guilty of the mental crimes, I'm alleged. I'm quite the specimen, dead inside, with an electric periphery. Feel like I'm inside out, focused on an epiphany. My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge. But, I'm not guilty of the mental crimes, I'm alleged. My last nerve endings have become desolate. Good things come to those who wait. When do we know it's too late? Look through my eyes and see my neurons stagnate. My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge. But, I'm not guilty of the mental crimes, I'm alleged. My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge. My last nerve endings have become desolate. Fear slows my reactions, pray for calm stimuli. False praise by the medicine, I'm repeatedly crucified. My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge. I'm always on the edge. Why is it the same, the same in the end? Why is it the same in the end?

Face to face – You gotta interact Drama filled – It’s another act (Chorus) You can’t handle any more distractions Think you gotta film your every move. You’re like a chemical reaction Allergic to human interaction. OVER REACTOR (4x) Head down and digitized Your brain is mesmerized From screens that burn your eyes, Until the power dies. (Chorus) No one believes you’re still alive Unless you share your achieves. Intimate details, you can’t erase Once you send them out in to space. OVER REACTOR (4x) Crisis – At your fingertips. Deviceless – It’s the apocalypse. Stolen soul and identity Time bomb – In a warped reality OVER REACTOR (4x)

It’s slowing fading in to view. These artifacts shimmer, like they’re brand new. No matter how long you’re gone, it’s like you never left. Come back home, to get the weight off your chest. Sticky evolution with the same consistency, Dangerous or safe with a risk of injury. The sacred past is now overanalyzed Can’t find the facts, if the truth’s all lies. Searching for clues, but, the ink is all faded. Wide-eyed student, how’d you get so jaded? Never too late to solve the mystery, Even if it’s old like ANCIENT HISTORY. Time – Won’t stop for no one. Time – Is vicious and cruel. Never too late to solve the mystery, Even if it’s old like ANCIENT HISTORY. It’s like ANCIENT HISTORY (2x) Translate and digest the buried memories Chip away the dirt that’s built up for centuries. Never too late to solve the mystery, Even if it’s old like ANCIENT HISTORY. It’s so old – it’s like ANCIENT HISTORY (4x)

Inside the numbers and outside the lines, Hiding undercover, it’s defective by design. Below the radar, shaking in your boots, Nothing can penetrate the shield, it’s bulletproof. Slip on the foundation, down to the roots, The noose was pretty, was that a sign or an excuse? Fall and Rise – Rise and Fall (2x) (Chorus) Take me to your leader Take me I’ve got the photographs. Take me to your leader Take me BEFORE THE CRASH. New slang with hints of flattery Mixed with the acid from the cold battery. Nervous, but, super-charged, bet you never felt so large. Sifted through the rubble, drill in the debris Never looked like trouble, 52 for all eternity. Don’t you hold your breath, black days aren’t over yet (2x) (Chorus) + Take me – I’ve got the evidence Take me, BEFORE THE CRASH – It’s gone in a flash. Take me, BEFORE THE CRASH – there is no turning back. Carry me past the devils and angels, to the decision maker, Right this wrong, he could’ve been spared, but, we waited too long. If it wasn’t one thing, it was another. The sky was his sister, Earth was his mother. Seemed like a world away, it was only 6 months to the day. Never will he get to reach his potential The unknown data that is most essential Off the grid, re-evaluation, Was he sacrificed for his own salvation? (Chorus)

Next Chapter in the long Anthrophobia history....
October 2016: As the ‘Rewired’ chapter was winding down, after great gigs and incredibly positive feedback to the record, we were gearing up to write and record the next set of songs fueled by the momentum and energy of the year spent supporting the comeback, out of retirement release. Our Bassist, Eric Bess, was really spreading himself thin and something had to give, his schedule was getting even more hectic and he had to focus his energy into his new business projects. Our friend, Bass monster, Rob DiJoseph filled in for a few gigs to round out 2016. Ultimately, we all realized 2017 would be next to impossible to continue with any type of regularity or consistency with Eric’s other responsibilities. Bess even suggested and gave his blessing that we invite Rob into the ‘Phobia family as a new member. Rob and I have been friends since our Punk Rock teenage years in Philadelphia, while he was in the bands McRad, Little Gentlemen and later Savage 3-D. He has known Dickie since the 90’s and Brent since 2000, played with us at our retirement/family reunion show in 2007 and even wrote and recorded a few songs with us in 2013. Rob was really the only choice to replace Eric that made any sense. The transition was a natural, fun, comfortable, and confident one and we are all stoked on this first batch of songs we’ve written together for this EP. We are thankful for all we’ve experienced and created on this musical and life journey and we thank you for listening, paying attention, showing up, and supporting us over all these years…onward! – Frank Phobia (September 2017)

NOTES ON 'GRIND': Since we came back together as a band in 2015, we had a very loose, bucket-list type list to check off before retiring (again). One of those items on the list, was to go away and record a record with producer/ engineer / uber-talented, J. Robbins. He was in bands we loved and played with ages ago, Jawbox, Burning Airlines and Government Issue. J. worked on records we all own and love such as records by Clutch, The Sword, Lionize, Daria, Dismemberment Plan, Bakerton Group, Pentagram, etc. In our hectic lives, we wanted to go away, focus on a record and come home when it was done....it happened and the results of this glorious time at Magpie Recording Studios in Baltimore, MD., are this EP, 'Grind', our 2017 creative output into the world.
The songs on the Grind EP came together rather quickly for the most part, with the exception of ‘Nerve Endings’ which was first kicked around for almost a year with Brent, Eric Bess on Bass and Dickie riffing it out while Frank was never happy with the vocal phrasing. When Rob joined the band, we knocked the song into shape and finally finished it, while Frank finally liked his part about a week prior to recording the final version. The music for ‘Over Reactor’ was initiated with two Bass riffs and a vocal idea Frank brought to Brent and Dickie one night at rehearsal while Rob was home, sick in bed. The song was pretty much finished within an hour after Brent added the bridge to the song. ‘Grind’ was a lyrical idea Frank had that skate-rock riff machine, Rob, jumped on and the whole band arranged and spit shined it together after a few rough demo versions we recorded at Akdar Studios with Mike Radka. ‘Ancient History’ was ignited from a little bending note riff on a demo Brent came up with and sent Frank along with 50 others, Brent forgot about it until Frank played it for him. Dickie, Rob, and Brent finished the song, and the band arranged it over the course of a few months. ‘Before The Crash’ the epic ending song of the EP, is the longest song ever recorded in Anthrophobia history. The organic, improved, improvised sections were never played the same way twice and most of the song had a loose structure that we could never totally complete until we were in the studio. In the 11th hour, J. helped guide us through the final arrangement, and we are thrilled with the results. As expected, once again, Frank Phobia wouldn't let anyone else write the lyrics, he's to solely blame or take credit for the words of these songs, however, J. Robbins helped in the studio with a few words and some creative editing. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do, thanks for listening.
