This song, 'Nerve Endings', of all the songs on 'Grind', took the longest to complete. Initially started with Eric Bess on Bass before his retirement from the band and only 100% completed over a year later with Rob DiJoseph on the 4 strings. Guitarist, Brent Black, Drummer Dickie Delp and Rob finally coupled with Frank's ever-changing lyrics to this song were never totally committed until weeks prior to recording. So, the song still sounds urgent, dynamic and fresh even though is it such a struggle to get it right. We hope you love it as much as we do now.
lyrics
I loathe the sound of silence, that's when my ears start to ring.
I'd rather scream my head off, than try to clearly sing.
(Chorus)
My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge.
But, I'm not guilty of the mental crimes, I'm alleged.
I'm quite the specimen, dead inside, with an electric periphery.
Feel like I'm inside out, focused on an epiphany.
My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge.
But, I'm not guilty of the mental crimes, I'm alleged.
My last nerve endings have become desolate.
Good things come to those who wait.
When do we know it's too late?
Look through my eyes and see my neurons stagnate.
My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge.
But, I'm not guilty of the mental crimes, I'm alleged.
My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge.
My last nerve endings have become desolate.
Fear slows my reactions, pray for calm stimuli.
False praise by the medicine, I'm repeatedly crucified.
My nerve endings are frayed. I'm always on edge.
I'm always on the edge.
Why is it the same, the same in the end?
Why is it the same in the end?
